Cover that advance window on your Holga!
May 7th, 2008 Posted in ModificationSome of the Holga users out there (including me) like to try and reduce light leaks as much as possible to go for the the more ‘high quality’ image rather than the more characteristic light leaked image.
One way that you can further prevent light leaks is to cover up the film advance window. Although it is already coloured red to help do this, it still might not completely stop light, especially if your camera is exposed to strong sunlight.
Velcro provides an easy way of being able to cover the window up when you choose, allowing you to still look in when you need to advance to the next frame.
1. Get some velcro, a pair of scissors and your Holga camera. I managed to get some self adhesive Velcro. You will have to super glue if you can’t get any.

2. Next, begin to cut your velcro so that it makes a boarder around your advance window. Mine was quite thin so i had to do it using a number of pieces. You can probably get velcro of a broader width.

3. I filled the gaps using the two pieces above to complete the full border.

4. Now, get the other side (they eyes) of the velcro, and work out how long it needs to be. I left some excess so that I have a tab for lifting it up.

5. Begin to work together mulitple pieces of velcro depending on what width you have. Make sure you choose a surface that it will not react with. My jeans worked pretty well. My chair didn’t!

6. Tape them together, making sure that there are no gaps. I used electrical tape.

7. The window cover is now complete! Look at it go…

8. Remember you can peel it off to look at the film when you are advancing!! Genius.

And thats it done! I hope you found this useful.
If you have any more suggestions for the cover i.e a better way of doing it , or a question, please leave a comment!
