Using Your Holga Underwater
May 7th, 2008 Posted in HackBecause of the cheap nature of the Holga and the lack of electronics, many people are willing to take the chance of using it underwater. If the bag splits you can just dry it out!
1.All you need to be able to use your holga underwater is a ’sealable’ freezer bag, a rubber band (or string), and some extra tape just for security.

2. Place your Holga inside the bag. You might want to check in the shop that it definitely fits comfortably. (i just opened the packet when no-one was looking…)

3. Seal the bottom of the bag

5. Now for extra water tightness, roll up the end and then tape it with strong tape. I’ve used parcel tape here.

5. Next, make sure that the bag is tight around the front of the lens. You don’t want any distortion or it will affect your pictures.

6. Now, you have a number of options for keeping it tight around the lens. Here I used and elastic band. I recommend using an elastic band, but you might also want to try tape or string (I tried string and it works well!)

Also with string you can make a loop for your wrist so you don’t loose your Holga

Thats it! The ability to use your Holga Camera underwater for what…£2?
Here is one example i found on flickr…

Haha thats cool - I saw similar tips being given with regards to DV camcorders… but with a Holga its a bit less of a (financia) risk I guess!

Cheers for the Comment GJH! Yeah, I guess thats the real joy of the Holga, the fact that there is no real loss if anything goes wrong. Also with the lack of electronics in most of the models, even if they did get wet they could be dried out with only the film getting ruined.
I really want to try it but I REALLY don’t know where. I guess I will have to wait until i go abroad where there are private pools and areas to swim in the sea

This is a perfect experiment for a camera like the Holga. I certainly wouldn’t do it with any of my other cameras. The risk is just too great.
“You don’t want any distortion in your lens” - this portion of the article made me chuckle…
Thanks,

thanks for the comment! haha, yes I see what you mean there, what I probably should have said, was that you don’t want any extra!
yes its perfect for the holga. I am thinking of photographing some objects in by bathtub soon (nothing rude ^_^)
